On May 6th and 7th, Matsushima celebrates the end of the Golden Week holidays with the annual Irohahime (Princess Iroha) festival. It takes place in the scenic temple area of Matsushima.

Sign up now (extended deadline: 5/2 12pm) to rent a special princess kimono or regular kimono (or be a dignified samurai gentleman in a hakama).

Come listen to the story of Date Masamune's eldest daughter, Irohahime, in English. She had a fascinating life which spanned Kyoto, Edo and finally Matsushima.

Try your hand at calligraphy and tea ceremony and take pictures with the elegant beauty of Matsushima as your backdrop.

All are welcome to take part in this festival, and English-language guidance will be available throughout the two days.
